Hi guys!! My name is Josie but some people pronounce it Jozie. I am a first generation American, born to two amazing parents who fled communism in Europe in the 1980s. At home I grew up speaking only Romanian and Hungarian, but I eventually learned English when I was around 4 years old at pre-school – so please excuse my grammar if I make mistakes! I’m originally from Portland, Oregon but made my way with my family to beautiful sunny San Diego when I was 8 years old.
Ever since I was a little, I always admired well-decorated and organized homes. Coming from a messy, busy (and fun) household I always found myself cleaning up and practicing my organizational skills even at a young age. The joke was on me however, because no matter how good I got at it, the house would return to its baseline chaos within a few days. I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything though – and as they say practice makes perfect!
As I got older, I found that I had expanded my flair for organization and aesthetics into a full-fledged passion for design. This led to me working for a busy design firm for 4 years. During my time there I became AutoCAD certified, helped with the installation of furniture and decor, staged homes for potential sales, and participated in my absolute favorite – remodels! While we often had freedom to work within our clients’ hefty budgets to create amazing designs, I always wanted to get the same feel out of my homes, but for a fraction of the cost. Over the years I feel that I have honed my craft, and recently was able to take everything that I learned and apply it when my husband and I completely renovated our first home (dreams come true)! With a small budget but big dreams we did 80% of the work ourselves. We always seek out DIY projects and strive to get the million dollar while keeping the costs to a minimum. Check out some of my DIY projects on my page. I would love to hear your feedback and ideas as well!
Another important facet of my life was health and nutrition. As the daughter of a nurse, I have always had an interested in the medical field and eventually studied nursing in school and achieved my RN. During this time and after, I maintained a focus on the study of nutrition and always applied my studies to my own life. Despite my best efforts, I found that it was always a struggle to stay fit while being so busy with work and keeping a social life. My body seemed to be following a repeating pattern losing and gaining weight. Eventually, through many years of trial and error, I feel that I finally have created my balance in life. For me, I noticed that in order to lead a sustainable healthy lifestyle, I had to break my reliance on periodic dieting. Fluctuating back and forth with indulging and responding with a hard diet left me tired and unhappy with my body and overall health. I made it a point to implement sustainability in my life and diet, and have made it a passion to help inspire and teach people how to find their own healthy balance. Currently, I am working on writing an e-book to help put these ideas to paper (digitally at least). In the meantime, check out my recipes for some healthy snacks and meals! Feel free to share your own as well. I love talking to people and collaborating on ideas!
